Davide Roberts Jazz Pianist and Composer

 

Davide Roberts is a British jazz pianist with Italian roots. Based in Munich, he works with national and international jazz artists.

Davide studied piano at the New Jazzschool in Munich with Max Neissendorfer and improvisation with Neil Bacher. He is fascinated by the sophisticated compositions of the standard jazz repertory and loves the musical freedom that is supplied by jazz. He performs with virtuosity and great respect for the musical art! He tunes in with his musicians with a sensitive and sultry touch. Always willing to give his best!

A rhythmically accentuated way of playing and refined melodies characterize Davide Roberts' style. These are the two pillars that support his spirited improvisations and the sensitive interaction with his co-musicians. He stands out of the crowd both as a subtle and supporting accompanist and as a dynamic soloist. His aim is a maximum of musical communication.

 

How come?

It is a coincidence that Davide Roberts discovers his instrument. A delinquent tenant offers a piano instead of money, and Davide's father accepts it. The new instrument in the house challenges him, and he starts practicing. Together with his Italian mother and his British father he lives near London, he is into folk and rock music and cuts his teeth into his first bands. The piano gives way to a keyboard, he also plays the guitar, sings and experiments with a lot of musical styles. Finally he discovers jazz and returns to the piano. In 1988 he makes an important decision - he stays in Munich and starts studying jazz at the New Jazzschool with Max Neissendorfer (piano) and Neil Bacher (improvisation). It is the beginning of an intensive time of learning and practicing with Davide Roberts refining his technique and exploring differen jazz styles. It is not surprising that rhythmical independence and melodic sophistication are the focus of his playing - he clearly loves Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett and Thelonius Monk.
